When Should You Visit an ENT Specialist?

An otolaryngologist specializes in diagnosing and providing medical and surgical care for ear, nose, and throat (ENT) conditions. These parts of the body are vital for our daily functions, so experiencing problems with them can significantly impact your quality of life.

If you encounter issues like ear pain, loss of balance, or a sore throat, it’s best to consult an expert immediately. Here are some other reasons you should see an ENT physician:

  • Hearing DifficultiesHaving difficulty hearing can affect your daily life, as it limits your ability to take in your surroundings and communicate efficiently. If you notice changes in hearing, it’s best to see a specialist. These problems may be caused by an infection, a ruptured eardrum, or earwax buildup. Consulting an ENT physician helps you get a proper diagnosis and personalized treatment.
  • TinnitusThis condition occurs when you can hear a ringing or buzzing sound that doesn’t come from an external source. While tinnitus has no exact cause, it may stem from exposure to loud noises or allergies. Experiencing ringing in the ears can be bothersome and stressful for those who experience it more often. You can get reliable care to manage and reduce symptoms by seeing an ENT specialist.
    • Dizziness or Vertigo

Inner ear problems can result in vertigo, the sensation that everything around you is moving or spinning. This condition can result in nausea, vomiting, and loss of balance, which puts you at risk of falling and obtaining severe injuries, like fractures. An ENT doctor may recommend medication or vestibular rehabilitation training to treat vertigo.

    • Sinusitis

A sinus infection may be caused by allergies, the flu, or a deviated nasal septum and comes with symptoms like facial pain, swelling around the eyes, and a stuffy nose. While some cases of sinusitis go away on their own, others may require care from an ENT physician to manage symptoms and prevent further complications.

    • Chronic Sore Throat

While it’s common to experience a sore throat, recurring cases may indicate an infection. Also called tonsillitis, a throat infection causes inflamed tonsils, painful swallowing, and high fever. Talk to your ENT specialist for prompt treatment at the first sign of these symptoms.

I first visited this place last week to get the fluid drained off of my lungs by Dr. Braun .This week I had a dye test on my port only to find out it was not working properly. ( Done somewhere else, NOT at OSSC) Dr. Braun was so calming and explained in detail why I should replace it. Today he did just that. I can not brag enough how awesome this place is!! The staff is SO caring, warm and friendly. Dr. Braun is the best!! I have not had the best start with my journey with cancer, but being able to have a place like this to go to when needed is definitely making it a little easier. I highly recommend this place!!
